Actions Speak Louder Than Words
By Paula WIlliamson, guest writer
While that phrase may hold some truth, it does not make our words any less important. If we were as careless with our actions as we are with our words, we would be in deep trouble. The Bible is very clear about the importance of our words. Matthew 12:34 says, "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”
It Is Written
EPHESIANS 4:29 Let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but if there is any good word for edification according to the need of the moment, say that, so that it will give grace to those who hear.
Heart Examination
For a heart inspection, we need only record the words that come out of our mouths. Both the heart and the mouth control our actions. Are our words full of slander, gossip, criticism, fear, negativity, pessimism, cursing, or depression? Those words reflect heart issues. Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked. Without Him, we are limited to ourselves. The good news is that heart restoration is God’s specialty. Ezekiel 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
Prayer
Lord, help us know that we are not limited to ourselves or to a hopeless existence. You are the God who can change hearts and lives and give us the courage and strength to live meaningfully. We give you our broken and hardened hearts and ask that You soften them so we may have the faith of a little child.
Takeaway
There’s hope for our hearts.
