Eternity

Eternity is not a topic most of us hear about every day, but it becomes a sobering reality when someone we love dies. Where do they go? Many ideas exist about what happens after death, including reincarnation, the belief that they simply die and that’s the end, purgatory, and many others. But where do those beliefs come from, and can they be proven true? What if they are wrong? Just picking one and hoping does not bring much peace. The Bible is a source of information that has been around for over 2,000 years and has not been proven wrong. Where we spend eternity is an important question.

It Is Written

1 JOHN 5:11-13 And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.  ¹³ I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.

A Strong Promise

God says, “He has given us eternal life, and that life is in His Son, Jesus. These things were written so that we would know we have eternal life. Believing salvation requires more than what Jesus did means that what He did was not enough. Dr. James Allen Francis penned these words:

He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in still another village, where he worked in a carpenter shop until he was thirty. Then for three years he was an itinerant preacher. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family or owned a house. He didn’t go to college. He never visited a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place where he was born. He did none of the things one usually associates with greatness. He had no credentials but himself. He was only thirty-three when the tide of public opinion turned against him. His friends ran away. He was turned over to his enemies and went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed to a cross between two thieves.While he was dying, His executioners gambled for his clothing, the only property he had on Earth. When he was dead,He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend. Twenty centuries have come and gone, and today he is the central figure of the human race, and the leader of mankind’s progress. All the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed,all the parliaments that ever sat, all the kings that ever reigned, put together have not affectedthe life of man on Earth as much as that, One Solitary Life.

Prayer

Lord, Your word tells us that if we have the Son, we have life, eternal life. I want to know where I will spend eternity and to take as many people with me as possible. I surrender my life to You and Your ways. Come into my life and help me know You for who You really are.
