Choosing friends is not a mystery, but choosing one wisely requires knowing what a friend really is. Facebook has done us a disservice with its term "friends." One is not a friend simply by acquaintance or association at sporting events. Friendship is earned. Not everyone who crosses our path is friend-worthy.
It Is Written
PROVERBS 13:20 Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
Choose Friends Wisely
Choosing a good friend is like choosing a good watermelon. First, know the characteristics. A friend-worthy person is honest, dependable, and keeps their word. They help you be your best self, sharpen you, and hold you accountable. If we want to be wise, we need to spend time with wise people. If we want good friends, we need to be one. Prayer
Lord, help us understand and be good friends. Help us become people of good character and integrity, and help others do the same. Remove from us any misconceptions about who a friend is and what it means to be one.
Takeaway
Friendship comes with conditions.
