What we choose to think about is powerful. Our thoughts can encourage or discourage us. They can cripple or empower us. They can make us courageous or powerless. Discipline in our thought life is just as important as physical exercise or diet. The good news is that we hold the power to control them.
It Is Written
PROVERBS 23:7a For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…
ROMANS 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
2 CORINTHIANS 10:5 We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ…
PHILIPPIANS 4:8 Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].
Thoughts Matter
What we think about does matter. Scripture warns us not to conform to the patterns of this world, which are constantly changing. We are to renew our minds with the scripture, which does not change. It is God’s word.
Aligning our thoughts in ways that contradict the Word of God is to elevate our own ideas or the world's opinions above what God declares as truth. We are responsible for our thought life. What if your thoughts appeared in a bubble above your head for everyone to see? That might make you think differently!
Takeaway
Think good thoughts!
